I am working to fight discrimination and ensure equality of opportunity for all
I have been working to fight unfair discrimination on the basis of age, race, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
As a member of the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, I recently questionned Sir Trevor Phillips about how he would develop the Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR). I asked him about tackling age discrimination and how he would work with the the lesbian, gay and bisexual community and ensure that your new staff at the CEHR are up to speed on lesbian, gay and bisexual issues. You can read the evidence session here.
I have also recently held events with Age Concern to make sure older people from ethnic minorities are not excluded from Islington's services and supported the campaign by The Children's Society for all disabled children placed away from home to have an independent advocate.
Working with The Women's Resource Centre we sucessfully campaigned for dedicated funding for the Women's voluntary sector. You can find out more about the Why Women? campaign by clicking here.
