This decision about Essex Road is a fantastic result for local people – and we have achieved this by working together. I am very grateful for all the support from the local community and local councillors.
I was also pleased to work alongside other political parties on this matter about which we all agree. I agree with Richard Bunting, Deputy Chair of Islington Conservatives, when he wrote in the Islington Gazette in March that “all parties need to combine their efforts to ensure the post office remains open”, and I was glad that the Lib Dems were able to send a representative to sit in on my meeting with the Post Office.
Please click here to read the letter from the head of the Post Office in London, who sets out the details about their decisions, and who thanks everyone for their time and effort in fighting for the future of this important local service.
It may not be possible for the post office to remain in its current building – the future of this site was made more difficult after the council sold its lease to a private developer last year! But the Post Office has promised the service on Essex Road will continue.
I know the Post Office are currently discussing a new building for the Post Office very nearby, and I want to let them know what local residents think – if you’d like to let me know your views, please send back the enclosed card, or if you need more space you can write to me at House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or email me at emilythornberrymp@parliament.uk.
